Artist Statement
I’m deeply interested in the things that connect us: to each other, to our environment, to things seen and unseen—from the micro to the macro. I have always loved being in nature and enjoy seeking out beauty. This seeking became imperative to my mental health when I developed an extremely painful disease.
After years of living with issues that affect my joints and my nervous system, I found that I feel a sense of relief and ease when I am in water. There is a particular lightness of being that permeates not only my body, but my soul as well. I experience a whole different kind of peace when I am floating in the water. Things are quiet. I am nearly weightless. I am as close to pain-free as I can be.
In my work, I explore nature, beauty, light, and connections. I explore the way that our bodies move through this world. I am constantly in awe of the way that sunlight hits a flower or how that light is reflected through water. I like to create paintings that leave the viewer feeling lighter, perhaps more hopeful. I believe that there are elements and forces in nature that nudge us here and there to help us grow.
