Shari Ellen Schwartz

I am very particular about what I choose to draw. The subjects are not traditional and not what you would expect to see as a typical still life or something decorative. I choose them instinctively; I am interested in ordinary things that might be overlooked or dismissed at first, but hold attention when you spend time with them. I work from photographs and keep the flattened perspective as part of the final image. This has become a defining part of how I see and translate a subject.

My work is not meant to carry a specific message or interpretation. I approach it as a study in observation and control, aiming to get as close to a stylized version of reality as I can. The focus is on precision, repetition, and refinement. Any sense of creativity comes through the choices of subject and the commitment to seeing them through.

I feel a strong sense of gratitude for my vision; I am aware that the ability to do this at this level is not common, and I do not take that for granted. Ever. I am also a master gardener.
