Nayeli Lavanderos
Born in Mexico and based in Lisbon, Nayeli Lavanderos creates detailed hand-drawn works that connect ancestral cosmology with contemporary minimalism. Her practice centers on the spiritual presence of animals, expressed through precise yet intuitive linework and the use of sacred geometry.
Guided by a slow, intuitive, and ritual-like process, she approaches drawing as a space of connection, where spirit and form converge. Through this lens, her illustrations become vessels of stillness and transformation, inviting viewers into a quiet encounter with the sacred forces of the natural world.
Artist Statement
My Power Animal drawings emerge from stillness, unfolding through a slow, attentive exchange between ink, observation, and the subtle forces of the natural world. Rooted in Indigenous Mexican cosmologies, my work is guided by the Mesoamerican principle of the nahual, the understanding that every person carries an animal spirit that mirrors its inner life.
In each piece, animals are not treated as symbols but as presences, beings that hold memory, intuition, and transformative insight. I approach them as teachers rather than representations, allowing their forms to emerge gradually through detailed, intuitive linework shaped by moments of stillness and inquiry.
