Born in Montreal, Canada, Michela Sorrentino (featured in both Create! Magazine and the Create! Magazine 10th Anniversary Book) studied fine art in Vancouver and textile design in Paris. Her work as a textile designer allowed her to spend her formative years in France, Italy, and Spain. This created a fertile ground for her later work as a graphic designer and painter.

Sorrentino’s work juxtaposes bold, organic shapes and unusual colour combinations with dramatic mark-making that reflect an intuitive and personal style. She often uses graffiti-inspired typography that speaks to language without being literal. The abstract images that form her art are visuals from day-to-day life and are true reflections of what she sees around her on her farm with her horses on the west coast of Canada.

Sorrentino currently works in mixed media, printmaking, and monotypes, combining acrylic, oil, graphite, ink, gouache, and charcoal. More recently, Sorrentino prefers working with paper and incorporates collage and drawing into her mixed media work.

Sorrentino’s work has been exhibited in galleries and exhibitions in Canada and Europe. Her work is part of private collections in Europe, Canada, and the USA. Her work has been published in Uppercase MagazineCreate! Magazine, and in the publications Cold Wax Medium 1st and 2nd Edition, published by Squeegee Press.
