Kuang Chu
Zheng Liu, pen name Kuang Chu, is a cross-border, cross-disciplinary artist whose work has been shown in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Poughkeepsie, and Los Angeles. He now divides his time between Los Angeles, Beijing, and Chengdu.
Currently, Kuang Chu focuses on his Red Balloon digital drawing series, exhibited and sold in galleries as fine art prints. In these intricate black-and-white drawings, the red balloon becomes a striking signature—bright, rising, and counterbalancing the surrounding darkness. Though Kuang Chu avoids limiting interpretations, the balloon often reads as a symbol of hope or high spirit against despair.
His art is rooted in the power of solitude, emphasizing self-awareness and courage in a turbulent world, while also engaging with themes of intimacy and politics. Stylistically, his work draws from European engraving traditions, evoking the Renaissance and Age of Discovery, with their spirit of curiosity toward the unknown.
