Jessica "JB" Burke

Jessica Burke (who prefers to go by J.B.) has called many places home, but now lives in Charlotte, North Carolina. JB is an award-winning artist, Associate Professor of Art, and colored-pencil enthusiast. Her labor-intensive drawings use magical realism to explore the intangible nature of memory and the shifting mystery of personal narratives. These colorful drawings allow us to tap into our natural curiosity about loss, while also confronting the darker aspects of human nature from a distance, creating a certain catharsis in facing these themes without real-world consequences.

Her work has been curated into group and solo exhibitions that include the Mint Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina; the Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts in Tallahassee, Florida; the LuXun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China; Arch Enemy Arts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; the Kepco Plaza Gallery Museum in Seoul, South Korea; and recently at Aqua Art Miami during Art Basel.

Her creative work is in private, public, and corporate collections that include the City of North Charleston, South Carolina; Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP; GLAAD, New York City; the City of Savannah, Georgia; Seminole State College, Florida; and the National Living Treasure Museum in Yugawara, Japan.

Her drawings have been published in Manifest's International Drawing Annual (INDA) 13; Strokes of Genius: The Best of Drawing; Creative Quarterly: The Journal of Art and Design; and 3X3 Illustration International.
