Kerry Sherman (formerly Kerry Krogstad), featured in both Create! Magazine and the Create! Magazine10th Anniversary Book, is a multimedia artist based in Los Angeles, California. She received an Associate of Arts degree from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in 2008, studied studio art at the Brentwood Art Center, and has maintained an independent studio practice for over a decade.
Drawing from Hermeticism, astrology, mythology, and the architecture of the subconscious, Sherman creates layered digital collages that explore the tension between the physical and ethereal worlds. Influenced by Dadaist collage, symbolic surrealism, and archival imagery, she re-contextualizes vintage materials into dreamlike compositions centered on transformation, ritual, memory, and psychological space. Her ongoing studies in Hermetic philosophy continue to inform both her visual language and conceptual approach.
Sherman’s work has been exhibited at Art Hearts Fashion in Los Angeles and New York City, featured in group exhibitions at the Rose Room in Venice Beach, and presented in her first solo exhibition at New Profanity in Los Angeles in 2018. Most recently, her work was included in a curated group exhibition presented through Artsy in collaboration with Create! Magazine (2026). Her work has also been featured in Bust Magazine, JustLuxe, and Art of the Times.
In addition to her fine art practice, Sherman is the creator of The Meta Muse Tarot (2022) and is currently developing a secondary deck.
Artist Statement
This series was created in response to the solstice’s invitation into stillness, introspection, and the quiet return of light. Each piece explores a threshold, the space between endings and beginnings, through imagery of reflection, ritual, and transformation.
Winter slows everything down, revealing what glows in the dark. In these works, mirrors become portals, hands become ritual tools, and landscapes shift into emotional terrains. Water, sky, and cosmic weather echo the inner world: its turbulence, its clearing, and the moment when a subtle but unmistakable light returns.
The final piece, featuring red-gloved hands holding a mirror over rippling water, became the anchor. The mirror reflects a calm sunrise not present in the sky, suggesting that solstice illumination often emerges from within. The storm continues around it, yet the light persists—quiet, steady, sovereign.
Together, these works act as visual spells: invitations to pause, witness oneself, and honor the liminal space between what has been and what is becoming. They ask the viewer to consider the beauty that emerges when darkness is met with reverence rather than fear.
