Clare Kim

Clare Kim is an artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Working primarily across drawing, painting, and ceramics, she explores the magic in the everyday and the threads that connect us to each other and to the natural world. Rooted in both the earthly and the emotional, her practice is guided by a desire to nurture a sense of curiosity and wonder, staying open to the small, magical details that surround us. Through an intuitive, layered process, she brings together materials and memories to reflect on how we remain intertwined with one another, with the past, and with the living world around us.

Her work has been featured in group exhibitions at The Other Art Fair (Brooklyn, NY), Pushup Gallery (Brooklyn, NY), Visionary Art Collective/Warnes Contemporary (Brooklyn, NY), Pyperbleu Collective (Brooklyn, NY), Paradigm Gallery (Philadelphia, PA), Gallery 263 (Cambridge, MA), Studio 9D (New York, NY), HBX (New York, NY), Land to Sea (Brooklyn, NY), and Chinatown Soup (New York, NY). She has had two solo exhibitions at Chinatown Soup, where she was also a resident artist.

Artist Statement

The north star that guides my creative practice is my inner child, the part of me that approaches the world with curiosity and wonder. Working primarily in drawing, painting, and ceramics, I explore the magic that surrounds us in quiet ways that only come alive when we are able to slow down and tune in. My process is intuitive and open-ended, shaped by surrender and play, tuning into what beckons my attention. I move between mediums and memories, letting them guide the work rather than controlling it. Through my work, I highlight the beauty that exists in the smallest moments that serve as reminders of the threads that connect us to ourselves, to each other, and to the world around us.
