Hyun Jung Ji
Hyun Jung Ji is a Seoul-based contemporary painter whose work explores the unseen emotional threads that shape memory and human connection. Influenced by childhood experiences of movement and solitude, she began drawing to understand emotions that could not be spoken, a foundation that continues to guide her practice.
Her paintings feature braided lines, long-haired figures, and intertwined natural motifs such as cranes, serpents, and flowers. These elements are not fixed symbols but essential presences that form the atmosphere of her inner landscapes. Her Threadscape series investigates how emotional currents weave together into quiet, reflective spaces.
Hyun Jung’s work is known for its dreamlike balance and subtle emotional depth, revealing lingering glances, invisible bonds, and delicate truths beneath stillness. She has exhibited internationally, including a featured project during the 2024 Paris Olympics, along with multiple solo and group exhibitions in Korea and abroad.
She continues to expand her practice across painting, sculpture, and interdisciplinary collaborations, guided by a commitment to revealing the beauty and complexity of the unseen.
Artist Statement
My work explores the invisible threads of emotion that shape memory and connection. Since childhood, I have felt emotions gather within me like intertwined threads, forming inner landscapes that cannot be easily spoken. Painting allows me to bring these unseen currents into view and give them a quiet, visual language.
The braided hair in my work represents these emotional threads. It becomes a line that carries memory, identity, and the subtle movements of the heart. Around it, imagined landscapes grow into gardens, forests, and fluid spaces of reflection.
The flowers, animals, and figures in my paintings are not fixed symbols. They are natural presences that create balance and atmosphere within each emotional scene.
Through my work, I aim to reveal the gentle truths that exist beneath the surface of our daily lives and invite viewers to encounter their own inner landscapes with honesty and care.
