Artist Statement
I find comfort in the “gross”—raw fish and maggots, blood and insects—yet I paint them in a way that encourages viewers to rethink why they are deemed off-putting. It is innately feminine to me. Concealing natural qualities that are “gross” and therefore socially unacceptable. I want to coerce the viewer into being enticed by the unsavory. I want to free women from the burden of conformity.
