Artist Statement

Suspension is a minimalistic wall sculpture composed of aluminum screening strips creating a wave-like pattern. The overall feeling of the piece is one of serenity, peace, and contemplation. The overhead lighting illuminates the curves and draping. The piece demonstrates movement and lightness and invites the viewer to experience a brief moment of tranquility.

Primordia PC is a sculpture created from aluminum screening atop a rock. The use of the screening against the natural rock backdrop with evergreens and leafless shrubs could be interpreted as a contrast between the natural or delicate and the enduring. The sculpture is rumpled and draped, giving a sense of movement or windsweptness. Being in nature can be the most satisfying environment when struggling with life.

The NINE is an arrangement of nine unique sculptures, similar in texture and dimension. Each piece is composed of rumpled felt roofing paper constructed over a steel armature. The imperfection in the paper is intentional, embracing the concept of Wabi Sabi—the beauty of imperfection. Assembling these pieces together invites introspection and an appreciation for their differences in appearance. This sculpture represents individual vulnerability as well as strength in unity.
