About the Create! Magazine 10th Anniversary Book: Create! Chris Weller, featured in both Create! Magazine and the Create! Magazine 10th Anniversary Book, is a New York City-based artist whose hyperrealistic charcoal drawings depict both the well-known and underground icons of the city. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Western Michigan University in 1985 and has since built a steady studio practice, now based in Brooklyn.

Weller’s work deals with the fragile balance between nature and the imposed, built environment of the city. Dealing with themes of belonging, climate change, and habitat encroachment, the work draws from Post-Impressionist ideas of light and contemporary life.

Weller’s work has been exhibited at The Brooklyn Museum, Doris C. and Alan J. Freedman Gallery, Salmagundi Club, 440 Gallery, Warnes Contemporary, Established Gallery, and Glen Hansen Gallery, among others.

Her work has been published in New Visionary Arts Magazine, The Best of Drawing Magazine presented by Artists Magazine and American Artist, Create! Magazine, and Whitehot Magazine of Contemporary Art. Weller is in the permanent collections of Western Michigan University, Michigan Technological University, Martha's Vineyard Hospital, and the Martha's Vineyard Agricultural Society, as well as many private collections.

She has been interviewed by The Municipal Art Society of New York City, Hyperallergic, Bold Journey, CanvasRebel, Create! Magazine, Artist Daily, and Western Michigan University. Weller attended the residency at Château d’Orquevaux, Orquevaux, France, and is featured in The Painting Center Art File, New York, New York.
