Alyson Khan, featured in both Create! Magazine and the Create! Magazine 10th Anniversary Book, is a painter whose work explores transformation, perception, and symbolic space through geometric abstraction driven by the quiet narrative of the psyche. Rooted in an intuitive process, her paintings combine hard-edge forms, translucent layers, gestural brushwork, and architectural arrangements that she sees as “functional.” Her compositions often reference dress forms, masks, headpieces, altars, ceremonial objects, shields, and portals.

Khan’s inspiration draws from sewing, quilting, esoteric symbolism, Art Deco architecture, Mid-Century design, and ritual practice. Repetition functions as both structure and meditation within the work, while mirroring, lens-like circles, and precise arrangements evoke ideas of protection, transformation, perception, and the relationship between inner and outer worlds.

Color is central to Khan’s practice, serving as both a formal and emotional force. Through luminous palettes, layered translucency, and shifts between controlled geometry and chaotic brushwork, her paintings investigate tension between order and chaos, containment and expansion, materiality and transcendence.

The Denver, Colorado-based artist has maintained a studio practice and exhibited her work since 1999. Khan's work has been shown at the Park Ave Armory with Cristina Grajales Gallery in New York City; is owned by well-known collectors Beth DeWoody and Stephanie Ingrassia; is held in the permanent collection at The Deji Art Museum in Nanjing, China; and is featured in The Londoner in Macau, the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore, and numerous other projects all over the world.
