Magazine is honored to celebrate a decade of contemporary art by publishing a look back at previously selected artists: their achievements, career growth, and more since being published. Stay tuned for the book launch in fall 2026, and join our newsletter to stay up to date.

Lyz Wendland, featured in both Create! Magazine and the Create! Magazine 10th Anniversary Book, is a visual artist living and working in the Twin Cities. She received her MFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and her BFA from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Wendland has been the recipient of a Jerome Foundation Project Grant and a Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant.

Wendland’s work is rooted in the belief that trauma—when faced and reshaped—can become a source of resilience, strength, and even beauty. Through mixed-media painting and paper installation, she channels her lived experiences of abuse and trauma into her own visual language.

Lyz’s work has been exhibited in galleries and museums nationally and internationally, including the Berkeley Art Center in Berkeley, California, and the Czong Institute for Contemporary Art Museum in Gimpo, South Korea.

Currently, Lyz is an Associate Professor of Art & Design at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, teaching drawing and painting.
