Vessels for Worlds | Noémie Marmara at Les Casemates de la Création, Antibes
For her solo exhibition at Les Casemates de la Création in Antibes, multidisciplinary artist Noémie Marmara, whose body of work is presented under the name intimate immensity, unveils a series of sculptural ceramic works alongside film photography.
Through these ceramic vessels, the artist gives form to a profound expression of gratitude toward the Earth. Their creation is intertwined with her ongoing research into water as an informational and symbolic substance, revered across cultures worldwide in rituals of purification, healing, and offering. These vessels invite viewers to reconnect with their own capacity to cultivate harmony in the world, serving as receptacles for the offering of ideals, intentions, and collective aspirations. Presented as ritual objects, they become spaces of holding: containers for the public's highest thoughts and visions, destined to be released back into collective consciousness.
Through her exploration of matter, Marmara seeks to awaken an awareness of the emanation known as Viriditas, the invisible and immeasurable life force, an essential vitality believed to sustain the cohesion of the world. The work draws on the writing of Saint Hildegarde von Bingen, who intuited the presence of a generative source at the heart of the living world and named it Viriditas: a power unfolding the intuitive wisdom carried by the Earth herself.
Born in 1989 in Cuckfield, United Kingdom, Noémie Marmara is a multidisciplinary artist exploring the mediums of ceramic sculpture, photography, and writing in a quest to reveal the liminal space between matter and the intangible. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from University College London and a Master's degree in Bilingual Communication from Sciences Po Paris. After five years of apprenticeship and training across Europe, she learned ancient Minoan ceramic techniques from a master ceramist on the island of Crete and studied Korean Onggi techniques under master Kwak Kyungtae. Since 2012, her practice has been deepened by extensive study of integrative psychology, human consciousness, and spirituality, including training at the Barbara Ann Brennan School of Healing and years of engaged Zen Buddhist practice in monastic centers across Asia and France.
Marmara works from her studio in Le Tignet in the Alpes-Maritimes region of France. Her works have been exhibited internationally and were recently featured in the annual 1000 Vases exhibition during Paris Design Week and in the exhibition Nature & Forms at B74 Gallery in Lucerne.
