Ana Sneeringer Brings The Inner Negotiation to D Contemporary London
Slovenian-American painter Ana Sneeringer will present works from her new body of work, The Inner Negotiation, in Dreams Without Borders II at D Contemporary in London. Curated by Sonia Borrell, the exhibition runs October 9 to 23, 2026, with an opening reception on October 9 from 3 to 6 p.m.
Bringing together ten international artists, the exhibition is the second presentation in Studio to Gallery's program supporting the transition from private studio practice to public exhibition. Its premise considers how an artwork develops through experimentation and revision, then acquires further meaning through its encounter with other works, the gallery space, and viewers.
The exhibition brings different artistic languages into conversation, exploring the boundaries between abstraction and figuration, cultures, and individual approaches to making. Within this setting, Sneeringer's figurative paintings examine the negotiations between freedom and control, vulnerability and protection, and the desire to be seen while remaining guarded.
Inside The Inner Negotiation
In The Inner Negotiation, women inhabit psychologically charged spaces where familiar objects and gestures become emotionally significant. Gloves, pearls, and other recurring forms carry shifting associations rather than fixed symbolic meanings. The paintings leave their relationships unresolved, allowing viewers to recognize tensions through their own experiences.
"I'm interested in the conversations we carry silently within ourselves," Sneeringer says. "In my paintings, strength does not have to announce itself. It can be quiet, uncertain, and still deeply present."
From Television to the Studio
Sneeringer's interest in human behavior began during her career in Slovenian television, where she worked as a journalist, producer, and host. At 29, she left Slovenia and began a life across cultures, living in Jordan, France, Russia, the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands, India, and the United States. She began painting in the Dominican Republic without formal art training, gradually turning a personal means of expression into an international artistic practice.
Repeatedly rebuilding her life in unfamiliar places shaped her attention to identity, belonging, and the ways people understand themselves. Now based in Alabama, she works primarily in oil, developing her compositions through an intuitive process of addition, removal, and revision.
Her work entered the collection of the Salar Jung Museum in Hyderabad, India, in 2020. She participated as a VIP Artist at the Urban Art Fair in Paris in 2025, and her work has appeared in international art and interior magazines.
