Artist Statement
I am known for:
Vibrant colors on textured surfaces
Local landscapes with universal themes
A landscape is an excuse for a dynamic composition. I create a deep sense of space that invites viewers to step into my paintings. Drawing and painting from direct observation is imperative for capturing the essence of any subject. Increasingly, the lightness of being in my artwork is held as bright sunlight contrasting with deep shadows.
As I walk and drive for local travel, I have trained my eye to notice everyday beauty: how reflected tree branches and sunlight dance on the surface of a lake, the way car headlights reveal rainbows in traffic signs at night, and the bounce of a single figure’s elongated shadow as they walk into the blindingly bright morning sun.
The concentration and meditative process required to create any work of art is an act of self-determination. The higher vibrations needed to construct meaning generate positive effects on the creator and countless others. Painting is a way to override increasingly chaotic world events and reset toward peace.
