Svetlana Matveeva
Svetlana is a contemporary mixed media artist specializing in surreal fantasy sculptures under her project HandmadeHome. Combining elements of nature, chemistry, and imaginative storytelling, she creates otherworldly creatures that evoke hidden magical realms. Her work transforms polymer clay sculptures by growing natural crystals on their surfaces, adding a unique touch to each piece. Born in Russia and trained as an interior designer, Svetlana is entirely self-taught in sculpture. Her artistic journey is marked by constant experimentation with diverse materials, including glass mosaics, textile art, and jewelry, supported by ongoing study in photography and digital art. This multidisciplinary approach enriches her ability to craft deeply textured, emotive artworks that blend organic and fantastical forms. Svetlana's sculptures are celebrated for their intricate detail, surreal moods, and complex personalities inspired by bizarre flora and fauna. Her work has achieved international recognition, featuring in exhibitions and private collections worldwide.
Artist Statement
The realm of the unknown, the hidden truths of reality and the boundless potential within us has always captivated my imagination. I seek the magical door to our true home, a place filled with pure enchantment, and the gentle fairy who beckons us forward. This path is woven through nature, through the fabric of our imagination, and along the threads that bridge beyond the limits of reality. Nature, with its endless mysteries and wonders, is a wellspring of inspiration for my work. My creations are part beings, part plants - like fleeting dreams fading as soon as they appear: too delicate to grasp fully, yet too vivid to be dismissed. For me, crystals are not just mineral formations but frozen fragments of that enchanting threshold - the very magic that brings physical substance into being - the delicate state between energy and matter. They invite the observer to step beyond ordinary perception and into the essence of things, where time seems to pause. Though their presence is ephemeral - barely perceptible to the eye - the imprint they leave resonates deeply within the soul.
