Anelia Lazaroff Torres
I’m a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Los Angeles. My love of art began in childhood, growing up in a family of artists—both of my parents were ceramicists who ran T.N.D. Studio, a business specializing in handmade ceramic tile, murals, and mosaics. I was constantly immersed in their world, helping out wherever I could. By my senior year of high school, I became an active artist and fabricator at T.N.D., contributing to large-scale projects for clients like Disney, Universal Studios, and the Aquarium of the Pacific. I remained in that role for over a decade.
I studied sculpture at California State University Long Beach and earned my BFA in 2004. While still in college, I began showing my work in galleries and alternative art spaces across Los Angeles. After graduating, I taught myself Adobe Illustrator and quickly fell in love with the many possibilities of digital design. That discovery led me to explore surface pattern design, digital illustration, and jewelry design—fields where I could blend art, craft, and storytelling in fresh, unexpected ways.
Over time, I’ve come to embrace the freedom that comes with working across disciplines. Whether I’m creating physical objects or digital designs, I’m driven by a desire to make meaningful, visually and emotionally engaging work that resonates with others.
Artist Statement
My artistic practice spans a diverse range of media, from digital work in Adobe Illustrator to jewelry and surface pattern design. Originally I’m from Bulgaria, but I came to Los Angeles as a young child and have lived in the area since. Essentially I’m a native with a deep connection to this city, and my work often reflects my affection for Los Angeles and Southern California more broadly—the warm climate, relaxed atmosphere, natural landscapes ranging from beaches to semi-desert terrain, the eclectic architecture, and the vibrant movement of its communities.
Alongside these real-world influences, I incorporate elements of fantasy and memory—past experiences, places I have visited, and imagined spaces—into my work. Ranging from abstract to representational, my work often occupies a space somewhere in-between, reflecting a belief that art has the capacity to communicate emotions, sensations, and ideas that cannot be fully expressed through words or concrete symbols.
My passion for modern art, design, architecture, music, and fashion drives my creativity. I’m particularly drawn to art that is positive and uplifting, and I always strive to create work with those qualities.
