Sarah Detweiler, featured in both Create! Magazine and the Create! Magazine 10th Anniversary Book, is an American visual artist translating her experiences into figurative and narrative mixed media paintings. After receiving a BFA in Visual Communications from the University of Delaware and a master’s degree in art therapy from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, she returned to her roots in the Philadelphia area.
Detweiler works out of her home studio, undulating between her art practice and motherhood. She explores beyond the traditional boundaries of painting by including embroidery and fiber art techniques into her work. Themes of unmasking, authenticity, motherhood, and the collective unconscious are woven into her work.
Detweiler exhibits regularly with Paradigm Gallery in Philadelphia, where she has had two sold-out solo exhibitions. She has also exhibited in galleries throughout the U.S., including Woodmere Art Museum, the Art Trust, Joy Machine, Brassworks, Antler, RoqLaRue, and bG Galleries.
Detweiler has been published in New American Paintings (juried by Amy Sherald), Root Quarterly (cover), Hi-Fructose, Create!, Arts to Hearts, Visionary Art Collective, Artit, MILKED, and Uppercase Magazines. Her work has been licensed for television and film, including Top Chef and Loot, as well as book and album covers. Detweiler has been featured by Colossal, The Jealous Curator, Create! Magazine, and interviewed for several podcasts, including Art For Your Ear, and The Create! Podcast (formerly Art & Cocktails). She is the subject of “exist” as part of the Making Art Films series by Jesse Brass.
Sarah Detweiler defines success as continuing to evolve in her practice with curious exploration and authentic expression.
