Artist Statement
In my current body of work, Together: Apart, I capture nostalgic moments frozen in time that feel both personal and universal to me. There is an idealized veneer to this vintage imagery. I have always been inspired by Edward Hopper’s ability to be both descriptive and yet enigmatic. I seek to explore the duality of shared experiences that feel both intimate and personal.
Using muted tones and bleached-out images, I create a dreamlike atmosphere that conveys calm and contemplation in my art. I often choose subjects that resonate with shared human experiences, such as family vacations, quiet landscapes, or solitary figures in moments of introspection. These subjects allow viewers to project their own memories and emotions onto the scenes.
At its root, I have a story for each painting that is personal to me. I strive to capture emotional resonance and poetic meaning rather than to tell explicit narratives, keeping them as open-ended as possible.
