Artist Statement
In my paintings I merge abstraction with figurative and landscape forms as a means of expressing both the physical and the spiritual parts of life. The works vary in their balance of abstraction and figuration but in each piece I work to include the feeling of a presence of a being or life energy. My early training in classical violin, which required being able to play in any tempo, any key and express any emotion, has greatly influenced my use of color. I don’t feel limited to a particular palette but am very interested in how color, whether bright or earth tones, saturated or subdued or any of these combined, can create an emotional response. This group of paintings are part of a series of running figures which began in 1990 and is still going on.
