Olena Zubach

Olena Zubach (b. 1981) is a Ukrainian visual artist working with photography and collage. She is currently based in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

She holds a master’s degree in economics and finance. After leaving her career in the financial sector, Olena studied at the Kyiv School of Photography from 2021 to 2023 and began her artistic practice in 2022. In her work, she explores the relationship between photographic imagery and painting, focusing on minimalism, form, and the dialogue between constructed and captured realities.

Olena is a winner and finalist of several international photography competitions, including the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts International Photography Competition (USA). Her work has been presented at leading art fairs such as Photo Basel, Vienna Contemporary, and Istanbul Contemporary, as well as in multiple group exhibitions.


Artist Statement

My artistic practice exists at the intersection of photography and painting, where boundaries blur and the resulting images emerge from my artistic vision. The objects in my photographs are stripped of everyday function and approach sculptural form, inviting slow contemplation. By reusing the same elements in new and distinct compositions, I create subtle variations that shift the perception of familiar forms. Through this process, I develop a visual language that speaks directly to the essence of color and form.
