Katie Rodgers, featured in AQ Volume VI, is a Canadian artist whose expressive landscape and abstract paintings explore the emotional resonance of place. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, her work is characterized by bold, exaggerated colour palettes and vigorous, textured brushwork. These elements come together to form dynamic, imaginative interpretations of familiar environments—inviting viewers to connect not just with a scene, but with the feeling it evokes.

Katie is an active contributor to the local arts community. She is an Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, a member of North Van Arts and the West Vancouver Community Arts Council, and currently serves as Treasurer for North Van Arts. She is also the co-owner of Artwrk.ca, an online platform that connects contemporary artists with collectors across Canada.

Katie’s work has been exhibited in numerous galleries, including CityScape Community ArtSpace, the Ferry Building Gallery, the Silk Purse Arts Centre, District Foyer Gallery, Federation Gallery, Whitby Station Gallery, and several HelloArt locations. Her paintings are held in private collections across Canada, the United States, and Australia.

Katie lives and paints in North Vancouver, where she balances her artistic practice with a career as a CPA, and raises her twin boys.

What inspired you to become an artist, and how did you decide to commit to this path?

Art and music were prevalent in my childhood home. My mother taught visual arts as well as exhibited her own work while I was growing up. I initially 'rebelled' from this artistic upbringing with my education by getting a Bachelor of Commerce and later becoming a Certified Management Accountant. But the pull of art was never far away. Once finishing my degree at the University of Guelph, I began painting again and have kept it up ever since, with workshops, courses and my own studio practice.
