Artist Statement
After the shock of the October 7th attack began to settle, I was swept into waves of anger, anxiety, and grief. I needed somewhere to put it all. Not long before, I had finished Revealed Faith, work born from the comfort of openly embracing my Judaism. Now I felt myself pulled back toward the quiet intensity of Concealed Faith, where belief lives in the shadows.
Cycling has always been my counterbalance, and after Revealed Faith, I’d created the energetic drawings of Bicycle Dynamism. In the weeks after the attack, I returned to that space of motion and joy, layering the colored pencil Bicycle Dynamism imagery over the pastel background of Revealed Faith.
This merging of spiritual comfort and kinetic joy became an act of concealment and revelation—two sanctuaries, faith and movement, intertwined. The work grew into a metaphor for freedom: the freedom to feel, to believe, and to be seen. I no longer have to choose between what grounds me and what propels me forward. Today, I embrace the risk of visibility and choose, every day, to tell my story in full color.
