Giulia Aim

Giulia Aim is an Italian multimedia artist based between Rome and London. Her practice explores the relationship between perception, nature, and contemporary visual culture through painting and mixed-media research.

She is currently developing Slices of Life - The Time of Nature, an ongoing series of enlarged circular paintings inspired by fruits and vegetables. Through shifts in scale, meticulous observation, and vibrant colour, her work transforms familiar organic forms into immersive visual experiences that invite viewers to reconsider the natural world.

Drawing inspiration from seasonality, cycles of growth, and the visual language of everyday life, Aim investigates how attention can reshape the way we relate to ordinary subjects. Removed from their function as food, fruits and vegetables become symbols of vitality, transformation, abundance, and time.

Her work balances realism with a more symbolic and emotional reading of nature, creating images that exist between observation and imagination. Through painting, she seeks to reveal the extraordinary complexity, beauty, and presence hidden within forms that are often overlooked.

Artist Statement

Colour is at the core of Giulia Aim’s practice.

In Slices of Life - The Time of Nature, colour is not used merely to describe a subject but to direct attention and transform perception. Through enlarged paintings of fruits and vegetables, Giulia Aim invites viewers to slow down and engage more closely with forms that are often consumed, overlooked, or taken for granted.

Her work is rooted in a fascination with the visual intensity already present in nature. The deep red of a grapefruit, the luminous yellow of a lemon, the vibrant green of a kiwi, and the layered purple of an onion become vehicles for exploring rhythm, structure, and sensory experience. By amplifying scale and colour, she reveals details and patterns that might otherwise remain unnoticed.

Seasonality and natural cycles are central to the project. Fruits and vegetables function as markers of growth, transformation, abundance, and renewal. Their colours carry traces of these processes, becoming both visual and emotional expressions of time.

Rather than inventing colour, Giulia seeks to observe and intensify what already exists. Through painting, ordinary ingredients are transformed into immersive images that move between still life, landscape, and abstraction. The familiar becomes monumental, while colour becomes a tool for curiosity, wonder, and attention.

For Giulia Aim, colour has the power to deepen our relationship with the natural world, encouraging viewers to rediscover the richness and vitality contained within everyday forms.
