Evie Hinojosa

Evie Hinojosa (b. 1998 in LaPlace, LA) is an artist and middle school art educator living and working in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In 2021, she graduated summa cum laude from Louisiana Tech University, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts and the College of Liberal Arts Academic Excellence Award.

Since graduating, she has exhibited in an online exhibition with RIVRE Gallerie, been published by The Quatrain, and participated in a local arts festival in Baton Rouge called The Ogden Park Prowl. Her work explores patterns and fragmentation, experimenting with the blending of fine art media with traditional crafts and their motifs.

Artist Statement

My work can be described as pattern-forward, visual explorations of traditionally female-dominated crafts such as quilting, sewing, and embroidery. Each piece explores the way that fragments, or small parts, cooperate to communicate an entire image or story and seeks to highlight as well as elevate undervalued, feminine crafts. I’m especially interested in and heavily influenced by folk art, kaleidoscopes, and Islamic art tiles.

It is my hope and the ultimate purpose of my work to bridge the gap between traditional craft and fine art.
