Artist Statement
As a love letter to a haunted childhood, Cassidy’s work explores the delicate interplay between comfort and discomfort. Weaving together themes of sentimentality, girlhood, and fear, she invites viewers into a world where the familiar becomes strange. Cassidy creates small-scale oil paintings, each piece contributing to imagined memories of domestic quietude. In her work, figures linger and lounge in uncanny space, waiting in anticipation of the unknown. She seeks to reimagine the haunted house as a multifaceted symbol, one that embodies both safety and dread. Guided by wistful romanticism, Cassidy navigates the eerie realms of horror and dreams in search of something sweet.
