Elen Bezhen

Elen Bezhen is a painter working in the genre of figurative art. Her work focuses on the relationship between nature and humanity, with a particular emphasis on the feminine image.

Elen was born in the North Caucasus, where her fascination with nature emerged and developed through the careful study of botany and entomology. She later moved to Moscow, where she received a classical art education at the Academy of Fine Arts. Her desire to explore a contemporary artistic language led her to study contemporary art at the Rodchenko Moscow School of Photography and Multimedia.

Elen's admiration for the old masters, particularly the painters of the Northern Renaissance, has profoundly influenced her artistic approach. Drawing inspiration from their techniques and methods, she adapted and integrated them into her own practice, creating a unique style where tradition and modernity seamlessly converge. Over time, these techniques evolved and became an essential part of her work, enriching her paintings with texture, depth, and vibrancy.

Currently, Elen Bezhen lives and works in France, where she continues to explore and refine her artistic expression.

Artist Statement

In the works of Elen Bezhen, the relationship between the human figure and nature is explored through a quiet, contemplative visual language. Rooted in her interest in botany and entomology, she constructs images in which the human figure exists in a subtle dialogue with its environment.

She combines classical painting techniques with a contemporary sensibility, creating layered surfaces where stillness coexists with inner tension. Her figures often function as veiled self-portraits, balancing between definition and ambiguity, while invented botanical forms address themes of fragility, transformation, and the blurred boundaries between nature and human intervention.
