Damon “Creative Lou” Brown, eatured in both Create! Magazine and the Create! Magazine 10th Anniversary Book, is a Seattle-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice engages the intersections of community, cultural memory, and the built environment. Working across illustrations, paintings, murals, mosaics, and fabricated metal, Brown creates site-responsive works that translate collective narratives into enduring visual forms. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Washington State University and has since developed a public art studio practice grounded in research, collaboration, and storytelling.
Brown’s work explores themes of identity, place, and intergenerational storytelling, informed by early influences in comic books, street art, and self-directed study. His approach centers everyday experiences with a quiet intentionality, emphasizing nuance and the layered histories embedded within communities.
His work has been presented in exhibitions including Figment of Imagination (solo exhibition), A Convergence of Marksat the Center on Contemporary Art, the Black Lives Matter Exhibition at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, and Truth B Told – A Visual Legacy at Gallery Onyx, as well as Our Story. He has also participated in the Seattle Deconstructed Art Fair, MoPOP’s Through the Eyes of Art, and Art Interruptions: Lake City.
Brown’s work is embedded across Seattle’s public landscape, including major commissions such as Fire Station 31 and the Seattle Children’s Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic in Othello.
His current practice focuses on painting and large-scale integrated works that function as both visual landmarks and vessels for collective memory.
