Cozy Soga

I began my career over 25 years ago in Tokyo as an illustrator and sculptural artist, exhibiting in numerous juried shows across Japan and receiving multiple awards. In recent years, I have shifted my focus to concept-driven oil paintings, exploring poetic symbolism and visual tension through two-dimensional works.

In 2023, I received the Dynamic Contemporary Artist Award. In 2024, I participated in the Almenara Art Prize online exhibition, exhibited in a group show in Milan, and was featured on a billboard in New York City. Currently, I am honored to be selected as a finalist for the 2025 Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize.


Artist Statement

My work explores the tension between opposites—organic and synthetic, emotional and engineered, real and imagined. I am drawn to how these forces coexist and reshape our understanding of identity.

In one painting, a female figure is adorned in cybernetic attire that blurs the line between armor and ornament. Her physical brain appears fused with mechanical extensions, evoking a paradoxical beauty that amplifies her humanity rather than suppressing it.

Another piece features a white crow in flight, symbolizing liberation from fixed values and social frameworks. The central figure strikes a voguing pose, expressing rebirth through movement. Voguing, born in the 1960s and revived across generations, mirrors the inner transformation of the self.

Through these visual poems, I explore how technology and myth converge, offering viewers a poetic interface between memory, machine, and metaphor.
