What Happens When You Finally Trust Your Creativity with Carrie Schmitt

What happens when you stop trying to control your art—and start listening to it?

In this moving and deeply spiritual conversation on the Create! Podcast, I’m joined by Carrie Schmitt, artist, author, and creativity coach, whose new book Awakening Creativity: A Sacred Journey to Reclaim Your Inner Artist invites us to rediscover the divine relationship we all share with creative energy.

Carrie’s story began in darkness. After developing a rare life-threatening allergy that left her bedridden, she was guided by an inner voice that told her: “Now that your life is over, you might as well do what you want—and paint.” From that moment on, creativity became her sanctuary and her source of unconditional love. Through painting, Carrie discovered that creativity is not something to control or perfect, but a loving force that saves, holds, and heals.

Topics We Discuss

  • The moment creativity “found” Carrie during her illness

  • Seeing creativity as a divine relationship rather than a skill

  • Why control blocks creative flow—and how surrender invites magic

  • Turning challenges into devotion and trust

  • Healing the artist’s wounds and rewriting our stories

  • How creativity connects us to love, presence, and joy

  • Letting go of the myth that artistic worth is tied to success
