Emi Avora at D Contemporary: A Private Curated Exhibition
D Contemporary is pleased to present a private curated exhibition of works by Emi Avora, winner of the Overseas Women in Art Prize. This focused presentation brings together a selection of paintings that highlight Avora’s ability to translate memory, place, and cultural crossings into rich, colour-driven compositions.
An Artist Shaped by Multiple Worlds
Born in Athens and educated at the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford, and the Royal Academy Schools, Emi Avora now lives and works in Singapore. Her practice reflects this expanded geography. Mediterranean light, domestic interiors, art historical references, and the lushness of Southeast Asia intersect throughout her work. These elements form dreamlike spaces where interior and exterior dissolve. Tables, plants, textiles, and architectural structures drift across vibrant grounds and create environments that feel both intimate and theatrical.
Recognition for a Distinctive Visual Language
The Overseas Women in Art Prize recognises women artists who work beyond their country of origin and continue to develop a coherent and distinctive artistic voice. Avora embodies this vision. Her paintings do not rely on nostalgia. Instead, they assert presence and invite viewers into worlds shaped by memory, perception, and the experience of cultural multiplicity.
A Focused Presentation at D Contemporary
Presented in an intimate, by-appointment format at D Contemporary, the exhibition foregrounds both the painterly sophistication of Avora’s work and her growing international profile. The setting offers an opportunity for close engagement with the compositions and their layered interplay of colour, space, and influence.
