Yuya Saito, featured in both Create! Magazine and the Create! Magazine10th Anniversary Book, is a contemporary artist based in Brooklyn, New York, where he operates Saito Studio. After graduating from the University of Central Oklahoma, he began his career in Tokyo.
His practice explores the intersection of sculpture, architecture, and urban culture. Re-evaluating the skateboard ramp—historically overlooked as a mere plaything—Saito views it as a significant contemporary "civic sculpture." Rather than pursuing height, it creates a horizontal "flow" along the ground, functioning as a shared structure ("architecture"). By extracting this non-hierarchical horizontality as a foundational principle, he developed his unique visual language, flow-chitecture. Fusing Japanese craftsmanship with American DIY culture, he uses bentwood techniques to transform rigid architectural materials into flowing, organic forms. This process liberates structures from fixed constraints, inviting viewers into spaces shaped by rhythm and movement.
His work has been exhibited at Rockefeller Center and GOCA Gallery in New York, MU Gallery and Contemporary Tokyo in Tokyo, and Mozuku Gallery in Taiwan, alongside major fairs like ART021 Shanghai, Art Busan, Art Fair Tokyo, and Study: Osaka Kansai International Arts Festival. Saito has been featured in Create! Magazine. Most notably, he participated in an AIR at BankART Station and installed a major public art project commissioned by the NYCEDC at the historic Brooklyn Army Terminal. He also executed public art at the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse and a corporate commission for Mitsui Fudosan.
