Artist Statement
My work explores the tension between the speed of contemporary life and the value of slowing down.
Over the past decade, I have developed a pointillist painting practice built through thousands of individually placed marks. Each painting is created through a deliberate and repetitive process that requires patience, focus, and time. While the finished works often evoke a sense of calm through their color relationships and composition, they reveal intricate layers of color and detail upon closer inspection.
This approach emerged from a desire to create a counterpoint to the constant pace of modern life. The act of painting becomes a meditation.
Nature remains an important influence in my practice. Rather than depicting specific objects or subjects, I draw inspiration from the effects of color, light, and atmosphere found in the natural world. My work is not tied to a particular image or narrative but instead relies on feeling, memory, and emotional response. Through abstraction, I seek to create spaces that feel expansive, optimistic, and contemplative.
Looking back over the last ten years, the scale, complexity, and confidence of the work have evolved significantly, but the core intention has remained unchanged: to create paintings that reward sustained attention and encourage deeper engagement.
