Lesa Shaw

Lesa Shaw is a Texas-based artist whose paintings move through the quiet, sacred spaces where women meet the natural world. Working primarily in oil, she creates contemporary figurative works that breathe with botanical and aquatic symbolism — forms that echo inner landscapes of resilience, tenderness, and becoming. Her practice is rooted in stillness, in the soft thresholds where intuition rises and transformation gathers its shape.

Shaw’s work reflects the belief that growth often begins in places we cannot see — beneath the surface, beneath memory, beneath the rhythms of daily life. Organic forms become metaphors for emotional truth, connection, and renewal. Through contemplative color and subtle gesture, she paints the spiritual dialogue between vulnerability and power, offering viewers a moment of pause, a moment to recognize the quiet beauty of unfolding.

Her paintings have been exhibited nationally and internationally, including the Arlington Museum of Art, Las Laguna Gallery, and Kush Gallery. Shaw previously held gallery representation but chose to step away to deepen her studio practice and follow the evolving spiritual direction of her work. Through painting and teaching, she encourages others to honor the unseen places within themselves — where clarity settles, healing begins, and identity opens like a tide.

Artist Statement

My work explores the intimate conversation between women and the natural world — a dialogue shaped by empathy, intuition, and quiet transformation. Through contemporary figurative oil painting, I merge the human form with botanical and aquatic elements to reveal the emotional and spiritual landscapes that guide us beneath the surface of daily life.

In Grow Beneath the Surface, coral becomes a symbol of layered strength and slow transformation. The figure’s embrace expresses empathy for the forces that shape her — a recognition of the ecosystems, pressures, and quiet rhythms that support inner change. These organic forms are extensions of her inner world, revealing how identity evolves through relationship with environment, time, and emotional truth.

Each piece is a meditation on becoming. I’m drawn to subtle gestures that hold emotional weight — an embrace, a merging of form and nature, a moment of stillness before clarity. My paintings invite viewers into a contemplative space, offering a pause to recognize the sacredness of slow growth and the beauty of what unfolds in quiet places.
