Julia McGlew

Julia McGlew is an illustrator and therapist living in Massachusetts. Starting at a very young age, art has been her main mode of communication, whether consuming art, creating art, or looking at the world through an artistic lens. Her work captures elements of nature, fantasy, and surrealism. As a therapist and an artist, she strives to highlight emotional complexity in her work while keeping her art whimsical and existing in a world of its own. She works in watercolor, oil, acrylic, and digital art.

Julia struggles with Cushing’s Disease and recently had to undergo brain surgery. Since surgery, art has begun to take center stage in her life as it never has before. Her art has also begun to spring from a more deeply emotional place in relation to her current life. Julia’s work is a world to escape into. Influenced by the beauty of nature and animals who are often overlooked in traditional art, her paintings transport the viewer to a calmer and kinder place. With a vintage theme that matches her personal style, Julia’s work echoes a far-off time and place, which helps to build an ethereal and surreal sense in her paintings.
