Jennifer Peart

Jennifer Peart, featured in both Create! Magazine and our “Land and Longing” exhibition, draws inspiration from nature, retrofuturistic architecture and design, and the speculative worlds of science fiction to create visionary landscape paintings. Her work blends natural landscapes with graphic motifs and architectural elements, exploring themes of balance, coexistence, and renewal. Based in Northern California, Peart’s paintings invite viewers into portals of possibility, where past aspirations and future hopes converge. Through dynamic compositions, she offers glimpses of alternative realities and parallel worlds, encouraging us to envision restored relationships with the planet and contemplate a harmonious, innovative future.


Artist Statement

Reimagining the Golden State through visionary landscapes, I explore the evolving beauty and complexity of California. Blending organic terrain with architectural forms and graphic motifs, I create portals to speculative futures where humanity and nature exist in reciprocal harmony. Inspired by atomic design, science fiction, and my deep connection to the land, my paintings depict California’s vast biomes—ancient redwoods, Sierra Nevada peaks, arid deserts, and shifting shorelines—not just as physical places, but as dynamic spaces of possibility.

Each composition re-envisions familiar landscapes through a lens of ecological reciprocity, imagining alternative futures where restoration and preservation take precedence over exploitation. Through unconventional color palettes, spatial inversions, and layered textures, I seek to challenge the way we perceive the landscapes we inhabit, blurring the lines between the built environment and the wild, between past and future, between what is and what could be.

Public lands are not static; they are ever-changing, shaped by both natural forces and human impact. These spaces hold not just ecological significance but also cultural and historical memory, linking generations through their enduring presence. By presenting these landscapes as both familiar and futuristic, I aim to underscore our responsibility to protect and restore them, ensuring that future generations can experience their wonder firsthand.

In a time of ecological uncertainty, these visionary landscapes serve as both celebration and call to action—an invitation to reimagine our relationship with the land, to sustain and co-create the world we hope to leave behind. Through my work, I seek to foster a sense of awe, curiosity, and stewardship, inspiring viewers to see these landscapes not only as places of beauty but as essential to our collective future.
