Elaria

Elaria is an artist living and working in Greece. She creates works in ink on watercolour paper, combining pure colour with metallic leaf and gold- and silver-coloured inks.

Alongside visual art, her creative practice encompasses literature and book design. Image, text and book structure develop as distinct yet interconnected strands of her work.

Elaria’s works are held in private collections in Greece and Switzerland.

Artist Statement

Elaria creates her own system of contemporary iconography. Her images embody forces, functions and states of being rather than serving as portraits or narrative characters.

Working in ink on watercolour paper, she uses metallic leaf and gold- and silver-coloured inks as independent elements of her visual language. Pure colour, ornamental structure, decorative flatness and finely rendered details become meaning-bearing elements that reveal the inner nature of the image.

Across her series, Elaria brings personal experience into dialogue with archetypal imagery, creating a mythology of her own in which invisible forces and structures take visible form.

Mini Interview

What is the central theme or concept behind your current body of work?

An iconography of states, forces, and interactions - things that usually have no visible form.

How do you hope your work resonates with or impacts your viewers?

I don’t think about how my work should affect the viewer. If an encounter with a painting becomes a genuine experience for someone, that is wonderful. But it does not have to happen for everyone, even for a very perceptive viewer.

Can you share a pivotal moment that has shaped your artistic journey?

I fell in love.

What advice would you offer to emerging artists navigating today’s art world?

I don’t particularly like giving general advice to people who haven’t asked me for it. Artistic practice is too individual, and what works for one person may be completely useless to another.

Are there any upcoming projects or exhibitions you would like to share with our readers?

I’m completely absorbed in my work right now - in the pleasure of making it and in exploring new artistic possibilities. When the works are ready, they will appear on my website and other platforms.
