Brenda Welty

I am an artist currently working in digital photography. I am based in York, Pennsylvania. My work blends photography, architectural layering, and digital collage to explore memory, identity, and transformation, ultimately creating a life-felt emotional impression.

I am 100% hands-on, using photographs that are captured by me, apart from historical family images that I’ve integrated into art pieces. The editing and printing are part of my creative process and are done by me as well.


Artist Statement

I use photographs to create impressions of life in an illustrative way. My process is to take photographs that catch my eye—usually because of the color, the light, or a certain feeling or emotion they portray. Later, I use these different, sometimes unrelated, photos together by layering, blending, and stripping colors. Through this practice, the beginning of an idea will reveal itself.

Ultimately, I create places, settings, and portraits that feel vibrant or muted, strong or subtle, giving an emotional feeling.
