Brenda J. Harrison

Hello, I’m Brenda — the Creative Director and artist behind Wind & Water Designs. I’m a designer and mixed media artist specializing in floral and coastal motifs designed for stationery, textiles, and home goods.

I’ve been creating art for as long as I can remember, blending mixed media with a love of color and storytelling. My journey has taken me from New England to Italy, Australia, and Japan, where I lived and studied and found endless inspiration in my travels. Alongside my work as an interior designer and color consultant, these experiences shaped how I see the world — as layers of color, nature, and emotion waiting to be woven into design. It bridges the gap between ancient spatial philosophy (Feng Shui) and modern digital artistry. My preferred medium and process is combining my photography with original paintings I create using delaminating alcohol inks. My artwork can be viewed on Fine Art America and will be featured in the 2026 Arts to Hearts Project book, 101: Colors.

Today, I call San Diego home, where I live near the ocean in Point Loma with my rescue dog and cat, always learning, always creating marine inspired and botanical works of art. Through Wind & Water Designs, my mission is simple: to craft artwork that sparks joy, calm, and connection in the spaces we live and love.

Mini Interview

What is the central theme or concept behind your current body of work?

My work explores the beauty of nature through color, texture, and organic forms, drawing inspiration from coastal landscapes, botanicals, and the natural world. By combining original photography with hand-painted mixed media and digital composition, I create layered imagery that captures both the familiar and the unexpected.

How do you hope your work resonates with or impacts your viewers?

I hope my artwork invites viewers to pause, discover something unexpected, and appreciate the beauty in everyday surroundings. Whether evoking a sense of calm, curiosity, or wonder, my goal is to create an emotional connection through color and imagery.

Can you share a pivotal moment that has shaped your artistic journey?

Living and studying in Japan profoundly influenced my appreciation for simplicity, balance, and the beauty of imperfection. Combined with my background in interior design and color consulting, these experiences continue to shape how I approach composition, texture, and storytelling in my artwork.

What advice would you offer to emerging artists navigating today’s art world?

Stay curious, experiment freely, and allow your artistic voice to evolve naturally rather than chasing trends. Embrace new techniques and opportunities, but remain true to what inspires you — authenticity is what makes your work uniquely yours.

Are there any upcoming projects or exhibitions you would like to share with our readers?

My artwork is currently featured in the Yokai exhibition at the Japanese Friendship Garden in San Diego’s Balboa Park, and three of my pieces are included in the upcoming Arts to Hearts Project 101: Colors publication. I’m also participating in local art markets and fairs while continuing to develop new mixed-media collections through Wind & Water Designs.
