Amy Handy
Amy Handy is a mixed media collage artist based in New York City. Juxtaposing paint, paper, old photographs, mosaics, fabrics, and various found objects, her artworks seek to evoke a mood, generate an explosion of color, or suggest an air of mystery or the macabre. The layered pieces are finished with a coat of resin to secure the dimensional objects and to suggest the idea of being caught in time, like fossils in amber.
With careers as a costume designer, the owner of a paint-your-own pottery studio, and a freelance book editor, she is accustomed to constantly juggling multiple projects. She now works toward making more time for creating art.
Working under the banner of The Alchemist’s Lair, she exhibits at various art markets throughout Queens, New York, including Kew Gardens Arts and Woodhaven Art Circle, and is preparing for an upcoming exhibit at the cultural center at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kew Gardens.
