Aidamaris Roman Tejera

Aidamaris Román is an artist based in Puerto Rico whose luminous oil paintings blend realism with surreal, emotionally charged atmospheres. Known for her exploration of light, memory, and identity, she creates ethereal portraits and figures immersed in neon glows and dreamlike settings. Her work often evokes nostalgia, longing, and vulnerability—feelings suspended between the physical and the imagined. Through layered transparencies and meticulous detail, she uses traditional oil techniques to mimic the effects of light and digital distortion, building a bridge between classical beauty and contemporary themes.

Román’s series Beings of Light delves into the intersection of human emotion and artificial environments, often referencing music, poetry, and the aesthetics of digital life. Her paintings have been exhibited widely in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, including with 33 Contemporary Gallery, Nanny Goat Gallery, and Poetic Tiger. She has also been featured in Divide Magazine and the Time and Memory Book by Arts to Hearts.

Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, in 1978, Román continues to create from her studio, where she paints alongside her husband, artist Gamalier Bravo. Her art invites viewers to step into a glowing, intimate world where the past flickers through the light of the present.


Artist Statement

I create oil paintings that blend realism and fantasy, exploring spirituality and emotional depth through luminous and ethereal imagery. Through my work, I immerse viewers in a world where fantasy and nature intertwine, inviting them to explore the hidden wonders that lie just beyond the edges of perception. I aim to transport viewers to a realm where imagination knows no bounds. By depicting fantasy creatures looking to the side, I encourage viewers to join them in observing the mysteries of their surroundings.

I am captivated by the interplay of light and shadow, using blurred backgrounds to evoke a sense of enchantment and mystery. I seek to evoke a sense of curiosity and reverence for the natural world, encouraging viewers to pause and contemplate the beauty that surrounds them. To inspire curiosity, ignite imagination, and instill a sense of childlike wonder in all who encounter my creations.
