Tiara Knutson
Tiara Knutson, born and raised in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, was surrounded by the arts of varying degrees and DIY at a young age. With a woodworker of a father and a mother who painted, her parents came together to form their own business, eventually traveling and vending together. Tiara eventually inherited both skill sets—sculpting and painting—but with a macabre twist, often working with skulls and bones, incorporating them into recycled and upcycled pieces as well. Being able to create, share with, and inspire others has been a great source of expression for Tiara within sobriety and managing mental health.
Artist Statement
Winter, my most favored time of year! My time to rest, recharge, and enjoy what time I can with my family. Winter Solstice shows a great representation of my work year-round. The focal point of my pieces are always skull, bone, and afterlife related—but always accompanied by flora and crystals, almost as if to bring life into the piece itself.
I’ve always found myself fascinated by the afterlife and the macabre, especially how inevitable death is for us... and truthfully, I find the life cycle to be beautiful.
In ‘The Winter Solstice Springbok,’ I added bits of baby’s breath flowers amidst the clear quartz (representing the cold and ice of winter). Baby’s breath is often associated with weddings and births, welcoming new beginnings.
