Alba Arguello
I grew up surrounded by art—both of my parents are artists, so our home was always alive with brushes, paint, and creativity. That environment shaped me deeply, but it wasn’t until I was 16 that I found my own medium: ceramics. I remember stepping into the studio and trying the wheel for the first time—something just clicked. The movement, the rhythm, the transformation of earth into form—it felt like home.
Since that moment, I’ve been completely dedicated to ceramics. In 2018, I began receiving recognition for my work, including the Scholastic Gold Key Award, which led to my work being exhibited at Carnegie Hall. Those early honors encouraged me to keep pushing forward, but more than any award, what keeps me going is the peace I feel when I’m in front of the wheel. There is truly nothing else like it.
Today, I work out of my studio in Mexico City, where I spend my days experimenting with new shapes, glazes, and techniques. I love the challenge of constantly learning and evolving—each piece is a small exploration of form, surface, and emotion.
Ceramics, for me, isn’t just a profession. It’s a language. Through clay, I express things I can’t quite put into words—quiet memories, fleeting moods, the feeling of being grounded and alive. My hope is that each object I make carries a bit of that feeling forward into the hands of someone else.
